5 W's of James Brown
Who: James Brown, a famous musician known as the Godfather of soul and an African American activist. He was a talented singer and dancer and has gone to jail alot for beating his wife and drug related problems.
What: James Brown launched his music career and made it. He also has been sampled alot and many famous Black artists have included samples of his lyrics in their own music.
When: James Brown was born on May 3rd 1933 in Barnwell, California. "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business" launched his music career in 1953. He has been famous since the late 1950's despite having to go to jail many times. James Brown died recently, on Dec. 25th 2006.
Where: I previously mentioned James Brown being born in Barnwell, California and most of his music was released in the Americas. He also worked around California, mostly in Barnwell. He danced for soldiers and shined shoes. Once he became famous though, he was seen all around the world, mainly in the U.S.A. preforming. He died in Atlanta, Georgia.
Why: James Brown is really famous for going to jail more than enough times (around 12) for drugs, assualt, domestic violence, unauthorized weaponry, theft, and high speed chases. He was trying to be a boxer or a baseball player but injured his leg which led him to music. His name was supposed to be Joseph but got mixed on his borth certificate. James Brown was also famous for believing in Black people's rights. He always stood up for poor African Americans everywhere. He also went to many demonstrations for poverty and preformed for charity. He was like John Lennon but for black people.
Connection: I think James Brown and Malcom X are strongly connected because even though James Brown was a Musician and Malcom X was a Muslim minister, they both were activists on African American behalfs. James Brown fought with music and Malcom X with words. They both went to jail alot too. Malcom X started his ideas in a jail cell and James Brown started his first famous band in a reform school after going to jail. It's almost like they were brothers, but Malcom x would say they were.
